This Tostar sunburst jazzmaster is a truly great guitar. It's a rock machine, you could play Ventures in the middle or neck positions, but I think it's meant to rock. And personally I don't miss the floating trem, I found it more of a novelty than something genuinely useful.
The neck and fret work are perfect, the black hardware and tuners seem excellent, the body is decently heavy and I could only find two seams. The wood grain seams are extremely well matched, making me think it is a photo flame, however the attractive wood grain appears to carry through to the back of the body. The finish is all matte, so might be more easily chipped than polyurethane, and they have sprayed matte black all around the edges, personally I would like to see more sunburst. The pickups are extremely bright, so you roll off the tone control, big deal. The middle position has a decent quack. The cut of the 3 ply tortoiseshell pickup is just about perfect and it is routed on an angle to show off the white black white. The strings are 9 to 42 which suits this guitar perfectly and more importantly it seems to stay in tune exceptionally well.
The branded gig bag is pretty good and the accessories include a generic strap, another set of strings, a manual, and a really nice pliable 10 ft cord with velcro lanyard, a straight jack and a right angle Jack for the jazzmaster pickguard mounted Jack plug. My only quibble about the accessories are the 1.2 mil pics, which would be better suited for playing bass.
I never expected a guitar this good at this price point, IMO equal to other Asian guitars costing much more.
My only regret haha, about this purchase is that I already own a tele and a strat, or I would gladly Buy one of their deluxe series instruments. Their superstrat is gorgeous.
Well I guess you can tell I am a happy camper, I will be watching the Tostar direct website!

I honest to God could not believe what an excellent, well crafted instrument I received for the price paid.

This is my third Tostar guitar. I have both the TST-500 and the TTE-300 and they are really good guitars. I was looking for a guitar with p90's and this was a logical choice since I own and really like the other two. Just for info, I've been playing for around 17 years and have played gigs. I'm not EVH but definitely not a beginner. This guitar is actually fantastic. The fit and finish are excellent, the p90's sound really good, the frets are rounded and the neck is very comfortable. It's also fairly light and the tummy cut makes it a very comfortable guitar to play. The action was a bit high when I received it but lowering the action on a tune-o-matic bridge is really easy. The guitar still has the factory strings on it as they're actually really good. The additional stuff that comes with the guitar is a bonus but I won't use any of it as I don't need them. I would have no problem gigging with any of my Tostar guitars including this one and considering the quality of the guitar and everything included the price is unbelievable in a good way.

These P90s have tons of versatility and tones. Both sound so crunchy and have great response to high gain, Grunge-a-mania all the way.

The included amp is good and even has bluetooth capabilities

For all of you out there wondering, With a little tune up out of the box, this gorgeous guitar is a keeper. Will buy more!

I have been playing guitar now for almost 50 years.
I have a lot of experience with lower priced guitars mostly because I have been wanting to find a guitar manufacturer that wasn't gauging it's quality solely on a huge mark up.
It looks as though I have found my unicorn.
Tostar's TJM-160 was my introduction to the companies products.

It held all the same experiences that my last guitar, at 4X the price, gave me.
No set up to do, just tune it.
String height was great.
I have been playing it hard, 3 to 15 hours a day, for a few weeks now and it's still an amazing instrument.

There is one thing to be aware of with the P90 style pickups that I learned myself with this guitar as it is my first experience with this these.
First, they are considered, by many, to be the most versatile electric guitar pickup.
They have a great spectrum of tone as well as delivered clarity and are equally able to impress under heavy gain conditions.
The pickup's installed in the TJM-160 are keepers and seem to function as well as I will ever need.

The only issue I have with them is they are noise hounds. They are essentially tiny antennas that pick up electronic waves from everything that uses electricity.
This isn't an issue with the P90's in the TJM-160. It is a life long history of the design in general.

There are two schools of thought with the issue. Some people like the hums and buzzes and feel it is part of the ambiance of P90's.
Others, like myself, would much rather not have any sound I am not intentionally producing.

If you are like me and play gain heavy, which is where the p90 is most effected by the buzz and hum, you will have to watch a few videos about shielding your pickups.
It's simple and effective if you do it right and is only a few hours project with a small financial investment.

At this point I am more than thrilled with my new find.
A crazy inexpensive, sole stealing, shred demon guitar that is ready to conquer the ears and minds of metal heads the world over right out of the box.

I do have one legitimate complaint. It is actually an issue I have with most guitar manufacturers.
The name. "TJM-160" sounds like an "Auto Zone" part number for a crank case vent.

My "TJM-160" is now know as my "Porn Star" guitar because with the flat black body and that pick guard, it is one sexy looking machine.

Love my TJM-160 . It's an extremely easy guitar to play. I am impressed with how well made it is. Love the sound it makes. I love the look of the guitar. Very nice instrument. Easily worth much more than the modest cost. A true bargain for a unique instrument. i was looking for a kit for a jazzmaster style guitar and this was the better deal. Fit my desires with a sunburst finish, red tortoise pickguard, P90s, and a hard tail bridge. I would have preferred a gloss finish rather than matte, but he matte is well done. I did minor adjustments as I know some basic lutherie and it plays great and sounds very good. Thank you Tostar!

Very happy with this guitar! After a fret and neck polish, changing the strings and raising the pickups, it sounds good and plays well. Neck and body are good. No sharp fret ends. Decent out of the box set up except for pickup height. Very good buy if you know how to make a few adjustments after receiving. Down the road, if you were to change out the electronics and pickups, you'd have a professional level instrument.

First; this kit is favorable as Amazon alternatives brands such as Westcreek, Leo Jaymes. The price is fair for what you get.
The neck is comparable to an Earth guitar i bought about 5 years ago, but it had issues right after the 12th fret, which were wrongly routed for improper intonation and dead spots for some of them. Unlike yours which has no issue of that sort. Good upgrade from theirs, espacially considering the price. Thank you for that!
2nd; If i can ask for an improvement is to have more complete models like for examples; Westcreek has an SG slightly revised and with a new outlook take on it, and Leo Jaymes has a beautiful direct copy for a fair and reasonable price.
2 beautiful examples that may be offered as a future lineup for your customers.
3rd; Nobody does a hardtail strat without a pickguard or cavity in the back for the pots. It would be interesting like it is in a superstrat and like the Donner Dmt100 24 frets superstrat. Closest to my Earth (that i bought years ago).
Finally thank you for the canadian site which was fast processing and fast delivery.
The 4 stars is only because the nut on the high E was cut too close to the edge of the neck, so it was unusable to play. Quick fix for me, just change the nut, and the guitar is now playable. Also not a deal breaker for us, but our kit did not have the amp in it. For students it may be an issue as a complete kit, but not for us. Just mentioning for future deliveries.
Other than that, perfectly fine, i will be sending you in the future my wish list :)

Anyone who's spent any time researching budget guitars, looking for a well built, quality example that's worth buying, and most importantly, worth playing, should consider Tostar. I'm very pleased with my purchase and I appreciate the level of care and attention to detail that this company seems to put into their products. Unique design detail elements and hardware configurations are a standout. Quality control seems spot on. I have no complaints whatsoever about the guitar I received. Very nice guitar! Highly recommend. If you want to try the offset body style, this is a great choice.
The important things. Mine at least arrived nicely packed with no blemishes. Intonation achieved easily and stays in tune pretty well. The neck is the star of the show but the overall feel of everything is nice. Rounded edge frets all feel well. The luminlay markers are cool. Kind of novelty. P 90s sound nice and clear. They handle high gain much better than I expected them to. Keep both on to avoid the hum with high gain.
For the modders, the body is smaller than the average offset. Not as small as the mini jazzmaster but smaller than a regular jazzmaster/jaguar body. New pickguards may need new holes drilled. Also if you want to change pickups to humbuckers, you'll need to route to make room as the body is routed for p90 or mini humbuckers.
Mine plays fine as is, so I opted to mod something else and left this one as stock.
Other stuff that comes with it is nice but obviously freebie stuff. The stand is nice but doesn't sit the offsets well. My other guitars fit great though! definitely keep that.

So far this guitar is excellent 👍

Highly recommend for the price. Build quality is very well done. Neck was straight, frets were level and the overall feel is very sturdy. Purchased for daughter as a starter guitar. Neck profile is very comfortable comparable to a Fender neck. The p90s have enough punch for me and a very nice clean tone as well. I purchased the beginner package and while the amp is a solid 1 star quality, the guitar is excellent.

Based on the description I had pretty high expectations, and I really wasn't disappointed, the neck feels great, the fretwork is well done, no cosmetic complaints. I bought this along with the strat version for the sake having something cheap to try a few mods on, now I need the tele version and then probably still at least 1 more.

The accessories are nothing special, pretty standard, but I personally really like the little 5 watt amp as it's usb chargeable, and doesn't sound too bad at all.

Honestly, if these guys made a bass I'd probably buy that too.

Decent guitar

First guitar neck i didn't have to file the fret ends on.Or round off the edges of.The neck nut height i might bring down if i change it out.As far as string gauge,for me a more appropriate one would be 11-42 just to give a bit more body.I did the same to my Squier Standards and they sound way better,less thin sounding to the ear;but thats my 75 year old ears talkin'. less shimmeree. The pickups sound good ,not too dark;just that the adjusting screws were a bit tough to turn and would stick out the top when i got the pups to where i wanted them down near flat.nice smooth near skinny neck,tuners are hanging there.Might put a bigsby on there,nice pickguard.Generally a well balanced device to make you feel human.

And the feature I like the best is the glow in the dark side fret markers. Right out of the box it sounded ok, but I installed roller string trees and a roller bridge and installed and some GHS Gilmore strings. I will post a video. this guitar sounds killer.
